Introducing Single Mom Style Notes

I get whispers in my Facebook messenger, quiet conversations started by women I know, by friends of friends, by readers, sometimes by strangers — asking advice, needing to vent, wanting referrals for an attorney or helpful book. These messages all come from women who are becoming single mothers. No matter where they are in the process of divorce or pregnancy or separation or fertility treatment or death, no matter whether their words scream heartbreak or confidence, relief or desperation, I see a light radiating from each one of them. These are women becoming more and more themselves. Sometimes, that takes a lot of pain and grief, uncomfortable transition and carrying career, kids, court and much fear all at once. But by reaching out, I see those women getting there.

I know for sure they have found their footing when photos of these same women appear in my Facebook feed, puckered lips and new haircuts, swingy skirts and booty-hugging skinnies — their wardrobes taken up a notch, their style refined or altogether made over, their faces glowing. When they look more and more themselves, I know these single mamas are letting their past lives fall off like clothing, slowly wrapping themselves in possibilities and hope, embracing themselves and maybe even someone smoking hot who really sees them. 

I want to shine the light back on radiant single moms whose style shows off exactly who they are and where they are right now. And so we're launching Single Mom Style Notes to celebrate the gorgeous, glowy single mamas who inspire, not just by finding the perfect little shift dress or toting an envious clutch or working flip-flops like they're Louboutins, but by stepping into this part of their lives with intention and beauty and embracing their fabulous selves.
