Single Mom Style Notes: Bold and bright with Sili

Becoming a single mama is an open door to new choices — and maybe even a killer new closet (that you no longer have to share). Single Mom Style Notes introduces you to glowy, gorgeous women who are working their own looks, walking the runways of work, dates, classrooms and even courtrooms. Take note as we peek inside this styley single mamas look book with ten questions.

Meet Sili, the sassy, smart, super-organized force behind MyMamihood. She's mami to the Frog Princess, a five-year old firecracker who will one day soon unseat Beyonce (watch). Sili is an activist who works for MomsRising.org.

Styley single mama: Sili of MyMamihood.com

My style summed up in three little words:

Sexy business casual.

My most glorious style moment:

Last year's Kentucky Derby Soiree. I killed it and it reminded me of how much fun it is to dress up. I felt fantastic!

Three pieces I choose over and over:

I think they're all shoes! Black over the knee boots, pink booties. All from ShoeDazzle.com. I went on a shopping spree after the girl was born. I blame the hormones. And the cute shoes.

My best accessory:

My hair and my smile. I love flowers in my hair. It's become my thing. Surprisingly enough, I've picked lots of them up from WalMart (in the craft section). My goal is to have an entire flower collection to fit all my moods.

Style secrets I want to share:

I have learned (thanks to my beauty/fashion bloggers) that it's all about picking the right pieces. I dislike shopping. I think because, for so long, my mom did my shopping for me (I mean, even in high school). My style was more like "what Mami bought". She picked some great pieces but I realized that I lacked the ability to pick pieces for myself.

Experiment, try out new things. But don't buy something for the sake of buying it. Make sure it fits and make sure it looks good on you. I say if you try it on, look in the mirror and say "damn!" then it needs to go in your bag.

The best bargain in my closet:

I have this black dress that I adore. It's Asian inspired. I want to say I picked it up at like Body Shop or something like that (WAY too many years ago). It may have cost me $30. It's still my go-to dress.

My sweetest splurge:

Matching undies!

Online shop that shows up most in my history:

Amazon. Is that wrong? You'll also find Gap and Old Navy but it's usually me shopping for the girl.

Favorite shop to stop in:

Loft.

How my style has evolved since ______ :

I'm more comfortable with myself and not as tempted to wear extra sexy. Not that I can't, I just feel like I'm in a different stage in life. I rather have a little mystique than little clothing. Go figure?

The pieces I choose over and over:

I think they're all shoes! Black over-the-knee boots, pink booties. All from ShoeDazzle.com. I went on a shopping spree after the girl was born. I blame the hormones. And the cute shoes. Oh and the yellow shoes from the derby last year. I got those from DSW.com.
